Lets get to Work then

Warning: If you intend not to use a preamp then beware that the QFH will be a dead short, if your receiver outputs 12volts DC then you may need to disable the 12 volt output either via switch or some other means.

My solicitor (The other alf) has just pointed out to me that although I am freely offering practical advice I should also mention obvious safety requirements.

I am a member of RoSPA ( Gold advanced Driver) and I should mention general safety rules but I would hope that anyone undertaking this project will seriously consider the safety aspects involved whilst using Blowlamps, Chemicals etc, Please read instructions carefully.

I will not be held responsible for any injury or damage sustained whilst attempting to make the

PHQFH

So here goes then:

Things to prepare:

Wooden template: One circle at 340mm Radius (13 3/8 inch) for small loop and one circle at 363mm Radius (14 5/16 inch) for large loop, you can make both from the same piece because you only need half circles!

Joiners vice i.e. lined with timber preferably fastened to a sturdy workbench, perhaps a workmate although I have not tried one for this job.

15mm (1/2) Bending Spring, or if you are strapped for cash some wet sand, (that tip came from my dad a proper plumber)

Comfortable chair, to save the old back problems.

Good radio to tune to Classic FM. why not go for some 300 watt speakers!

Solder: before you ask! nothing larger than 3mm dia. (1/8 inch)

Flux: go for the self cleaning type of paste, saves a lot of elbow grease.

Blowlamp or if your not the impatient type you could use the Pipemaster, sold in maplins etc.

Insulation tape for marking the lengths of the pipes, you could use permanent marker pens etc, I use colour codes so I don't get the loops mixed up.

Pipe cutter makes life easier, or the good old Hacksaw.

Tape measure or similar.

4mm (5/32) Drill bit, and Drill.

Bucket of cold water and a apple? don't use Golden Delicious!
